Water heater removal in Albuquerque

We take the old tank away after it has been disconnected and drained. Your plumber handles the swap, and we take the empty heater from your garage.

What this covers

  • Old tank water heaters, gas or electric
  • Tanks left in the garage or side yard after a replacement
  • Tanks in closets and basements, once disconnected
  • Failed tanks, once the water is out

What it does not

  • Disconnecting gas, water or power
  • Draining a tank that is still in service
  • Installing or replacing a water heater

Replacing the heater?

If you need a new heater, call a plumber. Many will take the old one for you, so ask before you book us. We are for the tank that stayed behind, or the one you bought a replacement for and now have to get rid of.

On a gas heater, New Mexico Gas Company's notice says a qualified technician should handle the connector and cap the line (NMGC, 2021).

Why old tanks are heavier than they look

Albuquerque's water utility calls its water moderately hard to hard, and reported a 2023 city average above 8 grains per gallon (ABCWUA). It also notes that bits in your hot water may be calcium carbonate scale from the heater (ABCWUA). Old tanks hold that scale, and it does not always come out with the water.

A tank needs to be drained before it moves. If the drain valve is clogged and it will not empty, tell us. City convenience centers refuse waste with free liquids, so an undrained tank is a problem for you there as well.

Free options

The City lists water heaters on its large item pickup, at the curb, for residential customers. The Los Lunas transfer station takes them emptied. The ReStore lists water heaters as drop-off only. If you can get an empty tank to the curb, the City is hard to beat.
